Addiction Recovery Counseling & Treatment

Addiction

Addiction is a process that involves a repetitive behavior that is destroying the quality of your life. This may include substance abuse or involve the behavior alone such as shopping, gambling or sex. There are several therapies which are showing great promise for addiction recovery and treatment.

Although addiction to substances can occur after random experimentation, there is often a specific draw to the drug of choice. Understanding that link can be the difference in breaking the bondage. It is a documented fact that those who struggle with alcohol are frequently deficient in both alpha waves and certain neurotransmitters. There are similarities in addiction to other substances as well.

There is a well established correlation between mental health, trauma and addictions. Either nature or nurture can create a dysregulation. The dysregulation underlying the symptoms is often missed. Correct the dysregulation and the symptoms frequently go away.

We can also find ourselves addicted to the medications prescribed to get us off our drug of choice. Detoxification involves restoring the body’s control of its own chemistry.

At some level, the process of recovery from addictions will involve Detoxification, Stabilization, Repair and Maintenance.

Addiction Recovery, Counseling and Alternative Care

There are several therapies which are showing great promise for the treatment of addiction. These would include EMDR, Neurofeedback, Neuroscience and Nutrition.

EMDR: Click here for a detailed description

EMDR was first used for the treatment of trauma and PTSD. It has been used successfully with chemical addictions as well as behavioral addictions such as gambling and sex.

Neurofeedback: What is EEG biofeedback, also known as neurofeedback?

BrainPaint was tested in clinical trials and is being used in treatment centers for adjunct therapy for addictions. It has proven itself to help people struggling with addictions to remain engaged in their programs while resolving internal issues that lead to relapses.

Neurotransmitters play a vital role in our overall health. Their impact on our alcohol and drug use is monumental. Depletion of neurotransmitters set up a chain reaction leading to cravings and urges. Restoring the balance enables the body to return to homeostasis, aiding in addiction recovery by calming the VTA or pleasure pathway in the brain.
